Nigerian coach Gernot Rohr says that he would not think twice about dropping any player who is not committed to the national team.

The Super Eagles are once again undergoing a major revamp which is surprising considering that they were a dominant force in African football not too long ago. The presence of players like John obi Mikel and Obafemi Martins helped the Nigerian national team to lift the African Cup of Nations a few years ago. The highly talented squad has been on the wane in recent years. German nationalRohr was brought in to improve the fortunes of the national team.

Appointed only back in September,Rohr has had a good look at the state of Nigerian football. He claims that the national team needs to get rid of the bad blood if they are to start performing once again. Nigeria have done well in the last couple of months and the good form was first put into place even before the arrival ofRohr. The 63-year-old has even used the term ‘vacation players’ to define those names who joined the national team only for the vast bonuses on offer. The tough conditions with regard to the Nigerian economy is starting to hurt the Nigerian FA as well.

“Some players have been invited for two matches but have yet to push for a place in the first team and now we wish to invite fresh players to do what they could not do. The time is gone when a player comes for two matches, collects bonuses, allowances and ticket refund and does not measure up. What we need now are players who can fight for first-team shirts and so make the team more competitive,” said the German. Some of the players expected to be axed are Kingsley Madu,JamiuAlimi, and Rangers goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel.
